Mark Arnest - review on Debussy/La Mer

"Debussy composed La Mer for large orchestra. This new chamber orhestra version, by Dutch composer Marlijn Helder, delivers a leaner, almost Neoclassical Debussy, revealing connections to the composer's late sonatas."

Manuel Gaulhiac - review on Spring Rain

"Spring Rain is a piece in which nature plays a crucial role. On a base of an almost disturbing rumble, the sparkling sound of a trumpet bursts out like a bouquet of flowers, while the strings expand the intention, bringing it to a brighter register. The lyricism of the horn suggests the space: a seemingly muted landscape, rainy and solemn, like a Nrowegian fjord.

Nature is romantic and exalted here, served by a writing that highlights all the solos. The orchestra consists of only a string section and wind quintet,"

Manuel Gaulhiac - review on Debussy/La Mer

Ït is a piece that requires a great knowledge of orchestral writing on the part of the arranger, which Marlijn Helder certainly has."
